WORKING MISSION STATEMENT 2008-2009: Samahang Pilipino: 1) engages, organizes, and advocates for the Pilipin@/Pilipin@ American community on and off campus; 2) creates an inclusive and open environment in which we can educate one another about our unique cultures and experiences; 3) cultivates investment socially, politicaly, academically, and culturally, within and beyond our community.

Postions as Defined by the Samahang Pilipino Constitution

November 6, 2009

The Positions:

I. President

a. Shall serve as the primary representative of the organization

b. Shall oversee the overall operations of the organization.

i. Shall collaborate with the Internal Vice President to oversee the internal activities and logistics of Samahang Pilipino.

c. Shall be responsible for overseeing the execution and completion of all activities, projects and events.

d. Shall establish diplomatic relationships with the leaders of other campus and off-campus groups and organizations, and facilitate activities with such organizations.

i. Shall support the External Vice President in fulfilling representation responsibilities in standing coalition spaces (such as SCPASA and APC).

ii. Shall be primarily responsible for collaboration with other USAC sponsored groups and with Student Government.

II. Internal Vice President (IVP)

a. Shall primarily oversee and facilitate the execution of all internal activities and logistics of SAMAHANG PILIPINO and its Executive Board.

b. Shall be the primary coordinator of leadership development within Samahang Pilipino Board.

i. Shall also be responsible for collaboration with the Assistant Directors of SPACE and SPEAR to coordinate the development of Samahang Pilipino’s Leadership.

c. Shall collaborate with the Administrative Coordinator to fulfill logistical needs of the organization.

i. Along with the Administrative Coordinator, shall be responsible for coordinating recording of minutes of Execute Board meetings and general meetings.

ii. Shall reserve facilities (Board meetings, general meetings, workshops, etc.)

iii. Shall assist the Financial Coordinator with on-campus fiscal management.

III. External Vice President (EVP)

a. Shall establish diplomatic relationships with the leaders of other campus and off-campus groups and organizations, and facilitate activities with such organizations.

i. Shall serve as the primary liaison to student organizations of other colleges and universities.

ii. Is responsible for representation in standing coalition spaces (such as SCPASA and APC). The EVP may serve as the representative or designate an alternate, subject to the approval of the Executive Board.

iii. Shall support the Community Projects Coordinator in establishing relationships with organizations and groups in the community outside of UCLA.

iv. Shall primarily facilitate collaboration with other Pilipino-related organizations on campus.

v. Shall collaborate with the president to work with other USAC sponsored groups and Student Government

b. Shall Assist the Financial Coordinator in working with external funding sources and accounts.

IV. Administrative Coordinator

a. Shall keep documentation of membership logistics (registration materials, membership roster).

b. Shall reserve facilities (Board meetings, general meetings, workshops, etc.).

c. Shall coordinate logistical tasks and forms (stipends, facilities, mail outs, etc.).

d. Shall record minutes of Execute Board meetings and general meetings.

V. Financial Coordinator

a. Shall manage SAMAHANG PILIPINO accounts, USAC base budget, and Center for Student Programming account.

b. Shall coordinate preparation of funding and financial proposals.

c. Shall coordinate fundraising activities.

d. Shall complete requisition forms and purchase orders.

VI. Retention Coordinator (one year elected term – elected in Spring Quarter only)

a. Shall be SAMAHANG PILIPINO’s Education and Retention (SPEAR) liaison: attend SPEAR meetings, facilitates communication with SPEAR staff.

b. Shall be the official liaison to the Campus Retention Committee (CRC) for SAMAHANG PILIPINO.

c. Shall coordinate all SPEAR related responsibilities of SAMAHANG PILIPINO Board (i.e., proposal writing, initiates programming, etc.).

VII. Outreach Coordinator (one year elected term – elected in Spring Quarter only)

a. Shall be SAMAHANG PILIPINO’s Advancing Community Empowerment (SPACE) liaison; attend SPACE meetings, facilitates communication with SPACE staff

b. Shall be the official liaison to the Student Initiated Outreach Committee (SIOC) for SAMAHANG PILIPINO

c. Shall coordinate all SPACE related responsibilities of SAMAHANG PILIPINO Board (i.e., proposal writing, initiates programming, etc.

VIII. Education Coordinator (one year elected term – elected in Spring Quarter only)

a. Shall coordinate SAMAHANG PILIPINO scholarship program for incoming students and SPACE students.

b. Shall coordinate Samahang's relationship with academic resource groups on campus

c. Shall coordinate involvement in curricular reform movements.

d. Shall coordinate board internship program

IX. SPCN Coordinator (one year elected term – elected in Spring Quarter only)

a. Shall coordinate SAMAHANG PILIPINO’S Cultural Night

b. Shall coordinate logistical tasks of Pilipino Cultural Night (i.e. reserving facility, financial proposal, etc.)

c. Shall facilitate direction of educational content of Pilipino Cultural Night

d. Shall coordinate of SAMAHANG PILIPINO's Sayaw ng Silangan Dance Troupe.

e. Shall be responsible for inventory and storage of all costumes and props.

X. Cultural Coordinator

a. Shall coordinate cultural performances (excluding Pilipino Cultural Night) and workshops on campus and in the community.

b. Shall coordinate involvement in arts and cultural activities.

c. Shall coordinate the maintenance and preservation of documentation of all events to be applied to the SAMAHANG PILIPINO archives. The Cultural Coordinator will have a priority towards informing and enlightening the General Membership about the history of SAMAHANG PILIPINO and the creation of awareness of SAMAHANG PILIPINO as a student group throughout time.

d. Shall create an annual exhibit/workshop about SAMAHANG PILIPINO history for Pilipino American History Month.

e. Shall coordinate relations with other on-campus Pilipino organizations in order to process historical archival materials.

f. Shall coordinate relations and activities with alumni (Pilipino Alumni Association).

XI. Community Projects Coordinator

a. Shall coordinate SAMAHANG PILIPINO activities outside of UCLA.

b. Shall coordinate activities with community service-based UCLA organizations.

c. Shall maintain relations and coordinate activities with community-based organizations.

XII. Activities Coordinator

a. Shall coordinate all SAMAHANG PILIPINO social activities.

b. Shall coordinate activities with other college and university organizations and off-campus organizations.

c. Shall organize end-of-the-year banquet.

d. Shall organize general recruitment activities for new and continuing members.

e. Shall coordinate recruitment activities for incoming UCLA students, such as Welcome Reception.

XIII. PINAYS Coordinator

a. Shall coordinate programs/workshops related to PINAY issues

b. Shall actively work to provide a safe space for PINAYS on campus

c. Shall develop programs/workshops/spaces for the development of PINAYS and their allies

d. Shall actively work to develop and maintain relations with other organizations on and off campus

XIV. Kabalikat Coordinator

a. Shall create a safe atmosphere for the Queer members of the organization.

b. Shall develop programs/workshops/spaces for the development of queers and allies

c. Shall ensure that the organization address gender and sexuality issues.
